"I think it's a sin to sit down and let your life go, without making a try for it."

It's raining.
I'm feeling like being philosophical today.  So, here lately I have been addressed several times about religion, and much to my own disgust I have been unable to come up with the exact words to explain Moravians and other key aspects of my religion including the Trinity, and thanks to Michael, God's name? Okay.. since that one seems the most straightforward, I will start there.  In the Moravian church, and in most Christian churches, I assume, God is referred to as God, but God has many names, not exclusive to, nor excluding Jehovah.  In my mind, God is too great to really be named.  How can you give one specific name to an idea so large?  I tend to like the idea that God has many names.  Alpha and Omega, God Almighty, Almighty One, Holy One,  Lord (which is Jehovah in the Hebrew language, I believe), and the list continues on and on.

Okay.. so now Moravians.  I think we typically believe almost the same thing as many other Christian churches.  We believe in the Trinity, we recognize and cooperate with other denominations, we place a lot of emphasis on stewardship, etc.  Okay so this could get boring.  I like the way my dad explains Moravians.  The motto of the church is "In essentials, unity; in nonessentials, liberty; and in all things, love."  We understand that there are some things that are essential to the Moravian church and faith, and then there are some things that are not as necessary, and attempt to focus on the things that are necessary.  Something like that.  Some things are better left undefined.  Like Moravians don't particularly define what happens during communion.  In my head, though, it's symbolic, representative of Christ's sacrifice (just as the Cross is a symbol, not an idol).

Okay and finally the Trinity.  I believe that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, are precisely that... all forms of God.  Why? Well, the first chapter of John says that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. Something like that at least.. and then later in the chapter it states that the Word became flesh.  God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, are all referred to as the same names throughout the Bible.  Also, scripture says the Lord is one and there is none besides Him, so this is why I believe in the Trinity.  Why does Jesus pray to God, if He is God?  Well, that I cannot answer.  Perhaps Jesus in the human form, perhaps taking on human characteristics.. well.. I dunno.. I'm not even gonna go there.  Take it however you like.

So thankyou everyone that makes me think.  And gives me a break from Light in August for that matter.  Okay.  So that's my religion in a nut shell.. if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them, and perhaps slightly more prepared... although I admit I definitely do not come close to having the answers, but I can give my opinion.
